Some vacationers near this area of the country will typically pick a destination with an increase of people, more sunshine or more nightlife, there is a unique type of beauty that may only be on the rocky coastline of Northern California.

I've been going to Fort Bragg to catch salmon for many years, and although I don't fish anymore, I still increase the coast regularly simply to take pleasure from the scenery that is quite amazing.

So if you plan on heading to the Fort Bragg/Mendocino area come early july, or this fall for whale watching, I have assembled a simple route as you are able to take to get some good added enjoyment as you travel down the coast.

If you should be going to the coast from the East, or North you can actually start your journey in Crescent City California. Crescent City is a medium-sized town right on the Pacific, and it's quite picturesque.

You may wish to enter U.S. Hwy 101 and head south from Crescent City, on the road to the Fort Bragg/Mendocino area. Not long after starting your journey, you will reach what's simply called "The Avenue of The Giants ".

This 31-mile stretch of road will get you by, and through some of the very most amazing redwood trees you can ever imagine. They're so tall and big around, you will be required to get free from the vehicle several times or so to take pictures.

As you continue your drive south, you will not see much so far as populated areas or skyscrapers, but you'll see miles upon miles of rocky coastline that cannot be matched somewhere else on earth, at the least in the opinions of some.

About 4 hours or so after leaving Crescent City, you must get to the medium-sized town of Fort Bragg, California. Located right along Hwy 101 and the Pacific ocean, this town is one of the most peaceful places you can aspire to go.

Once there, you'll find lodging in one of many great small motels, shop in the many gift shops in town, and discover the freshest seafood you can imagine in one of many local fine restaurants that await you.

If you like to stare at the waves crashing set for hours on end, I highly suggest finding people beach near pudding creek, on the North end of town. The white sand is ideal for walking around in, and the pounding surf will keep you and your loved ones mesmerized for as long as you decide to stay in town.

If fishing is your thing, you will get on a charter boat and enter some quality time with the fish that call the Pacific their home. If you are the sort to get sea-sick though, I highly suggest bringing something to assist you out, because this area of the coast has pretty rough waters at times.

In the age of technology and constant checking of e-mail and such, it is really a nice break to just escape somewhere that produces you're feeling like life is much more relaxed.
